Help please!!!

Post by GRAUWULF »

Having just decided to get back into reenacting after a horrendous year I thought a new bit of kit would help. I,ve aquired a ural m63 correctly fitted out as an R71 with sidecar, mg etc etc. Once going they are great but can be a real bitch to start from cold. It doesnt help with the instructions all in german especially on the choke lever. CAN ANYONE advise on a best method of prestar and starting to avoid frustrated scraped shins etc.
Cheers

THIS IS GOOD ADVICE - Easystart is addictive. Fix the problem don't mask it.

First thing with these Ruski mong combo's is to find out what you actually have - what engine - does it have the correct carbs on it, is everything set correctly for the engine you have?

They are not all the same, and lots of people get in a fix by putting together bags of bits and expecting it to run straight off the box.
It is not, and never will be a German bike... you need the manual for a russian bike and suitable russian tools (lump hammer, crow bar, beer cans, cornflake packet, vodka etc)

Bung some fresh fuel in it, set timing and clean and gap the plugs and points. It should give you a starting point.

Hi Chris

Some of our boys have got urals currently in restoration. We've got a section on our forum about Krads and all things motorbike. You might find some advice on there. http://www.gdrecon.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=43

See you at the Victory Show mate.
