Interesting DAK related Youtube footage.

Post by Schäfer »

I thought this clip might be useful for research purposes.

From about 54 secs onwards the footage shows Panzertruppen in Nord Afrika going about daily tasks such as washing clothes, being issued with early style DAK kit and feldpost being distributed, etc.

It's obviously cheery propaganda for the folks back home but the film shows some interesting items, including a camo pattern zeltbahn, long DAK boots, britches, pith helmets, shirts, etc, being used and worn. I would imagine they had just arrived in Afrika as all the gear looks brand new. Please also note 'panzer skull' insignia being worn on the tunic lapels.

The zelts are especially interesting, John, as I also read somewhere that splinter zelts were used more than the tan coloured ones (there is also a photo of one in 'Rommel's army in Africa' by Dal McGuirk.)

I'm glad I found that clip.
