Sonderverband 287/288 in the DAK

Post by askhati »

I've been reading up on the Brandenburg unit and their operations in the African theater of war, and have run across several links to the Sonderverband 287/288 units that also operated in the area. What especially interested me was 2. Kompanie of the Brandenburgers, which contained English-speaking personnel from Africa (all territories), in much the same way that the British Free Korps had Brit and Dominion soldiers under the Waffen-SS banner.

Anyway. Long story short, I am interested in doing a 2. Kompanie impression, as part of the DAK and Sonderverband 288. Some questions:
- For the tropical tunic, how common was the wearing of the Sonderverband sleeve patch? (upper right arm)
- With the impression intended as a "combat" impression, how much captured kit could one get away with? Ideally, I would go full-German - but Italian and Brit/Dominion kit would probably have been used in equal parts.
- My reading thus far has suggested that they would have been using the Jäger waffenfarbe (apple green) in most of their units, apart from the specialist pionier/flak/etc units - any advice on this?
- Can anyone refer me to any solid sources of information on the Brandenburgers, and Sonderverband 287/288 respectively? Most of my reading to date has yielded information focused mainly on their involvement in Operation Barbarossa, and then under Skorzeny, with previous little information regarding their time as part of the DAK.
