DAK Uniform?

Post by bellumbill »

I would love to know everyone's opinion on who is currently selling the best DAK Heer Repro uniforms. Looking to buy a complete set - tunic, trousers, shorts, 41 cap. Boots are a whole different thread! :)

So far I have checked -
Epic
Lost Battalions
IMA
Ant-z
Spearhead (Barry Lyndon, ebay)
Hessen

Thank you!

I have a Lost Battalions tropical cap, tunic, service shirt, tie and trousers. (I bought my tropical low boots from S&M Wholesales). The breast eagle and litzen are not up to my liking. They are too yellow and not the orange color I have seen from originals in my reference books. I have scouted around for those from my usual vendors and they have none of what I am looking for but admit they know what I mean about the yellow coloring. There, that's my two cents.

Guys -

Thank you for your opinions, they are appreciated! Holz, I really appreciate the pics - The DAK stuff is such a great look!

To both of your points I have been leaning toward LB but have read a few minor critiques on this site, namely that the color is too grey-green as opposed to olive-green, but too me there was so much variation in German WWII uniform coloring that ultimately doesn't matter. Also, there was some critique of the tailoring of the DAK jacket but, again, I think that is minor.

I know that LB stuff is a bit more expensive as well and if there was any chance that some of the cheaper repros were considered as good I might be able to save a bit of $$$, but sounds like that is not the case. Does LB produce the shorts as well? Also, Holz, is the shirt you have on LB's as well? Looks like it matches the tunic really well.

For boots, I am planning on going with the SMW low boots.

Again, thanks for your input.

Best,
Bill K.

The whole uniform is LB top to bottom. Here is a shot of me with no feldbluse so you can see the shirt better. It leans more to the greenish side. Not sure how much longer LB will be around so you should inquire soon if you want to go that route.

Hong Kong Keith used to make the best- I have owned Lost Battalions (too thick) as well as originals and HKK was the closest by far! Insignia- there is much crap out there- eagles too yellow, litzen too yellow and not enough blue tinge to the main part, the list goes on. Here's my HKK set;

Yeah and I even emailed Frank over at GD43 to see if he had the correct eagle and litzen for a tropical uniform. He did agree that the ones out there are toooooooo yellow but he does not have any that I was looking for and he to has been searching for the right ones as well. Oh well.

Have you tried Morigi? http://www.nicholasmorigi.com/
He generally has very good insignia.

A friend of mine ordered some DAK insignia from Morigi and they're quite good IMHO.

Me myself - I ordered some from at-the-front and theyre quite al'right.

Which do like the best? I have a Morigi DAK breast eagle that I quite like but I'm not an expert on DAK topics. If you can give an opinion it will help guide me.

The best material quality is of course LB. But Ant-Z's DAK stuff fits like a glove. Its hundreds less and I might venture out to say the fit is better than LB.

It's the insignia I'm most interested in right now.
