John, a very nice outfit indeed, the £20 price tag - a great long term investment, it would not cover the price of the tally today.
Did you buy privately or from a dealer ?

It was a dealer,John.R.Deering,I still have his catalogue for 1971 some where. He opened a shop in Cliftonville near Margate,at the time unknown to him in a jewish community. The day my dad took me there,he had just finished cleaning off his windows of graffetie as most of his stock was third reich. He sold me some good pieces and some wrong ones, but as I gained knowledge I sold off the fakes and the good stuff has more than made up for it.
I loaned this tunic to a member of the U-boat society, who had a copy of the basic tunic made up by 'The Sutlers Store'(before they closed down)they now trade as 19th century clothing and they did a very good job of it.John

It is a very nice outfit John , I would shudder to think of the total cost today - nice story about how you came to own it.
The learning curve you mention - something everyone has to cross I can think of 3-4 "duff" things I have wasted money on and it is like "Del Boy" " no money back ........"

Thats a great picture. My tunic has O 930 39 T embroidered inside along with the former owners name tag 'Gottsch'.The shirt is a lower rank and I believe from the numbers dates from 1935.

That's an Obergefrieter rank attached to the 'General Seaman' service (5 pointed star.)Brigardefuhrer wrote: Thats a great picture. My tunic has O 930 39 T embroidered inside along with the former owners name tag 'Gottsch'.The shirt is a lower rank and I believe from the numbers dates from 1935.

John now has his one up for sale, I think he only wore it once. It's a shame as it's a quality jacket.Brigardefuhrer wrote:I loaned this tunic to a member of the U-boat society, who had a copy of the basic tunic made up by 'The Sutlers Store'(before they closed down)they now trade as 19th century clothing and they did a very good job of it.John
