Draußen im Schnee!
Afternoon all,
As luck would have it, we've been planning a filming event since early
November for this weekend just gone. On arrival at the site on Saturday
morning, it was just a hard frost and a dusting of snow, Saturday
night it just snowed and snowed and on Sunday morning we found
ourselves in an unspoilt winter wonderland. The gods were smiling on
us for sure as it was all beginning to melt by the time we were
heading for home!
Did anyone else manage to get out and take any?

Brilliant photos Neil, you sure did get lucky with the weather!
Re: Draußen im Schnee!
Dead lucky mate. Bit grim stood out it in whilst it was coming down and the 3am pee was no fun either, but you gotta suffer for your art I guess

As a guest of Neil and his group I had a great time, was made very welcome from the minute I got thereby the lads of GD, While being away is nothing new, Discovered the penalty of drinking Alcolhol in sub zero tempetures I found myself going for a pee every half hour all bloody night.
Great time was had and would like to thank you and your group once again for the invite and opportunity to share your weekend exsperience.

No problem Kev, glad you enjoyed yourself. You managed to get some great snaps which I look forward to having a good hi-res look at when the disks arrive.
By the looks of your tent on Sunday morning, I think we'll do one in the Summer next time eh?

Great pictures, where did you hold this training?

Still need to make our minds up yet as the unexpected weather changed things for us.Otto Kohl wrote:Which part of the war relate these pictures? Snow always helps to mahe good looking photos, congrats !
We have a couple of options though as after withdrawing from Kharkov, GD regrouped and then went on a successful counterattack in the final actions the 1942 Winter campaign.
The other option is late February 1943, when the Aufk. Abt was used to screen and protect the rest of the Division, but we just need to confirm what the locations were like.
To be confirmed

Cheers. These pictures represent the Motorcycle Battalion, Grossdeutschland in the narrow wood south of Lapkovo in the days following Christmas until the New Year, 1942. This is just after the severe battles of the Lutschessa Valley earlier in December 1942. Between 29th and 31st December, fought against Soviet forces who occupied the wood in bunkers and trenches. By the evening of the 31st they had taken control of the wood and cleared up any enemy stragglers, before establishing their own defensive positions.Otto Kohl wrote:Which part of the war relate these pictures? Very cold crisp and atmospheric shots - can almost feel the chilled air.
