Got the ID card today, looks great and very proffesional, a couple of points.
The AFRA letters. It may be my old eyes but for me it is not quite sharpe enough.
Not sure what the number is in the top left, mine is 10. I would hope this is the membership number, if it isnt then i do feel that this should be present on future issues.

Only minor though, all in all i give it 9.8 out of 10.

I look forward to AFRA going from strenght to strength this coming year, Associations ARE the way forward and to those that are still wary i would say this.
Given the continued and all out attack not just on the tools of our hobby but ALL personal freedoms there is a form of strength in numbers and Associations do give us a more powerfull voice (dont know if it will be enough to stop government turning us all into non thinking drones who do exactly as they are told) BUT i would urge those with reservations to think again since i believe that as individuals and stand alone groups the government WILL gradually legislate our hobby out of existance

Cheers

Dave

You are indeed member No10 Dave..... we started from Stunde Null when the "new" AFRA kicked off..... and the Alte Kampferen have the low numbers - Who knows one day you may be entitled to a Winkel on your right sleeve!!!!!!
I see what you mean on the "AFRA letters - The "A" is the main focus..... and the phorographic quality of the cards makes the "AFRA sit back into it..... It's on the rear anyways as to who you are a member of...... Did you wiggle the card about under a light? Did you see the holographs? "Ultra Secure" eh? that's the key!

This weekend sees me processing even more renewals and some new additions for 2009....... The online facility means I can take the printer to work and do cards from there (Gonna have to at this rate!)

Updates posted on AFRA News Page
Most relevant is this one
Re-enactor Battlefield Pyrotechnics Course

In our continuing efforts to better the hobby - AFRA will, before the end of March 2009, hold its first pyrotechnic course of the year. Popular demand means these are always oversubscribed. We have always held them in conjunction with TLSFx but 2009 sees AFRA holding standalone, specialised courses designed to help the practitioners in the hobby better understand the nature and effects of pyrotechnic devices. This course will be devoted to battle re-enactments. It will cover health and safety, pyrotechnic legislation, acquisition, storage and transport. It will cover planning of the event, risk assessment and methodology. It will then go on to cover pyrotechnic devices, effect and application - ground bursts, mortars, fire/fuel air effects, placing pyrotechnics on or near vehicles, safe working distances and much much more. This course is open to all bona fide, card carrying reenactors with an upper limit of 15 persons. AFRA members will have priority booking on the first 8 places and receive a generous discount. Non AFRA members will be offered remaining places at full price. All funds will be used to hire the venue, provide materials and all and any surplus will be returned to the AFRA account. This is a strictly non profit undertaking. Date, venue and prices to be announced soon.
I will also go so far as to make a bold statment - This is the BEST course you can get. Time and again we have proved it - Now you can spend a day with us and be taught it.

No commercialism here - just a burning desire to see this ever expanding hobby prosper! And as we say - open to ALL but benefits to members. AS IT SHOULD BE!

End of service announcement.

AFRA will try to continue to inform people via this forum but due to the open hostility shown to it by the owner of said forum - People ought to check on the primary domain for updates.
The official AFRA position is that we are saddened by the unfounded downturn in support - it is unwarranted and unnecessary. However it demonstrates some of the attitudes endemic in the hobby which continue to hold us back.

Thank you for your continued support of AFRA whether you are a member or not.

To All Members or AFRA
The AGM Will be held on 1 February 2008

Venue
Holiday Inn Kenilworth
212 Abbey End
Kenilworth
CV8 1ED

Room/Suite
Sydney

Time
14:30 to begin 15:00

Criteria
You MUST have either a 2008 membership card ON YOUR PERSON and Show it to gain entry OR a current 2009 Card. Those renewing or joining - We will have all cards up to date and available on the door. Only members will be allowed entry.

We are still finalising the Agenda and invite all interested parties to submit Agenda Items to the chair via pd@afra.org.uk

The venue and date has been chosen to try to tie in with Stoneleigh which many people attend. We hope this is amenable to people and if it works out we will keep this format in future -
Regards
PD

Thank you to those who are renewing - I think the phrase is "Thick and Fast" - the best way to describe the flow of them. The new applications are also coming in at a pace – it seems many of you were waiting for the New Year.
