Pioniers in Field Divisions

Post by VonSchnitzel »

I was wondering if anyone has much knowledge on the Pionier Companies that were in the field Divisions
I would like to know a few things about them

Was this the shoulderbroads they used instead of the green while they were in a FD?

Also there role the same as any other Pionier ?
Uniform patches if any?

It depends on the period really. not specifically certain about Engineers in FD. By convention for late war, black shoulderboards with unpiped Green Collar tabs would be the most likely setup.

I guess with Pioners being not a popular Reenacting Choice and having them in a Field Division would be almost an untouched topic probably hasn't been done in reenacting before in depth.
As lack of information if any.
I do know they were in the 18th Field Division and probably others as well.

True. I am trying to introduce at least one pioneer from the company detachment with Brigade Ramcke in North afrika, in our group. There are some pictures in the Schiffer Book but very limited.

great idea doing a Ramcke one
I have thought about it as well but im doing a Ramcke Medic first and Ramcke Pionier later
Just thought a Pionier in Field Division would be something different
If you get someone doing it I would love to see a few Photo's

both are important. Although we secured a medic first, then we started focusing on the pioneer.

I've managed to find the large bags for the pioneers. A round the neck grenade bag would fit well in this scenario, armed with an mp40, some large wire cutters and mine detector. All were used by pioneers

Nope. Grenade pouches used in North Africa were not made of tan material. They were either the green and blue variants. Tan grenade pouches, if any, came later.

And yes, good reproductions are available :)

I'll see if I can get some photos because they're still being made. Do you want it from your Ramcke impression in Africa?
