My Field Division Pionier Impression

Post by VonSchnitzel »

Thought I would post this here as well from the FJ Forums
More suited here than the Pionier board

My first time with my 18th Field Division Kit on
1942 Era not late war

Im doing a FD Pionier impression.
Any advice where I can improve the kit feel free to comment.

Nice impression!

One of very few things I would improve would be painting your gas mask can in Blaugrau. If you are doing early LWFd you should also replace your pouches and belt with brown ones. As for overall look - Fliegerbluse was usually worn with open collar and pouches should be moved to the front as far as possible.

You read my mind with brown pouches. I have been thinking about getting brown ones all this week so you just helped me in that decision thanks.
I wasn't sure about the collar so thanks for the correctness.
Thought about painting the gas canister blue but then thought against it for when I do a later war impression. Unless of course a buy a 2nd one.

Your impression looks very good. I personally like the brown leather gear. I wear that in my impression. In 1942 there was a a big deal going on with collar tabs. Some transferred troops maintained their original branch collar tabs while others received the totally confusing versions that were Jager green with branch piping around the edge. Only to be changed again to green with no piping & shoulder boards showing the branch colors.
My unit sticks with a 43-44 impression to only deal with green tabs or no tabs at all with the gull wings pinned directly though the collar. In photos you see plenty of black leather pouches, belts, straps and on the rucksacks at that time. Our unit allows either or a mix.
I wouldn't paint your gas mask tin. Blue-gray was very very early and olive became the standard rather quickly. The one you have is fine and correct.
I like your FD camo jacket.....is it a Panther one?

I recommended Blaugrau gas mask canister because VonSchnitzel asked about 1942 impression. When we are talking about late 43 - 45 period the olive canister will be OK, just as black leather or even web gear.

Hi, looks great - love the LW Field Divisions! On a constructive note I think that the helmet should have a Luftwaffe decal on the left side for 1942 (phased out from Aug 43, then a few non-decal blue-grey helmets were produced during late 43 before non-decal field-grey helmets became the norm especially as the Army took over the LW FD's later in the war - I digress...).

Also, perhaps I can't see your Gefreiter chevron but I think that it should only be 1 gull if no chevron? Love the Panther Field jacket!

Best regards, Paul

was there a requirement to wear a 1 stripe chevron with 2 gulls?
I didn't know that.
My new m35 Blue Luftwaffe helmet arrived today and I have ordered the decals already.
The helmet in the pics is a spare I had until it arrived.

I will add brown leather to the impression and a blue canister after that

cheers

Yes - LW ranks resembled those from Heer, where you had one chevron for Gefreiter rank.

get some leather grease and grease your leatherwork in. more tention on you straps. put more stuf in your pockets and fill your breadbag (I hate flat breadbags) You also need to make your breadbag older /dirty.
Lift your sidecap a littlebut and slide it to your rightear to give it more "panache".
tighten your rifle strap an put the end to your foot.

everything else looks fine (as above open collar and change the rank)
