Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
Hello all after a bit of reading last night found that the 16th Luftwaffe Field Division were the main LFD in Normandy during June - July 1944 and mainly were involved in combat from 17 July during Operation Goodwood.
After several attempts by the allies the Division were finally broken and retreated and joined the 21st Panzer Division. After several days fighting the Division had been reduced to less than 1000 men. Towards the end of the War the remaining men were formed into the Volksgrenider Division i believe.

"Chorlitz|12.SS|": With that many mp40s i dont think anyone had a chance.
"Gott Mit Uns": Your right - they were all picked off 300 meters away by riflemen.

Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
Sorry to poop on your parade but the flak battalion was detached from 16th Feld Div (L)when the heer took control in November 1943 and became the 1st battalion of Flak regiment 53.
The detachment of Flak units from FD(L) when taken over from the heer looks fairly common. If you want any help on the history of your chosen unit pm me.
Regards,
Paul

Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
Did you dye the sturm smock to make it a darker shade of brown? If so what color did you dye it with and how did you do it?

Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
I'd like to get in on this. I have a splinter smock and army webbing. As far as I know, this is perfectly feasable for late war LFD. Bear in mind I'm not a re-enactor per se, but an airsofter. Pics soon hopefully.
Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
He's also knew to the German side of things having airsofted as a yank until recently
Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
Can anyone tell me if FD shoulder boards were worn on the smock?
Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
On the field division smock it was common practise to replace the camo shoulder boards with FJ,HG or field division shoulder boards( wool with waffen farbe)

Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
Thanks. My smock has loops and buttons, I take it this is a field mod then, or is it a different pattern?
Re: Luftwaffe Field Division
The loop and button is there to attatch the shoulderboard to.

The period were interested is post Sept 43 so alot of Heer insignia, awards and equipment is visibly in use by mid 44 and defently by 45.
