@Stigroadie, I mean same type of smock or tarnjacke with the same patern.
Here you can see 2 of the photo's that a unit got the same, but you can see also that it depened on where they fought and what was in stock.
Not even the helmcovers matched the smock:
Just a good advice, look at the scenario you want to put down and just ask on the forum what would fit the best.
Or just sit down for 1 evening and browse a lot with Google.

Nice photo - what was the particular reason the HG div were issued W-SS smocks/Helmet covers?

Is your claim based on those few pictures.CDB Schmidt wrote:Nope... the HG division didn't use these smocks.
Have a look at this topic, found a lot of original photo's and posted them over here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16377
Rauchtarn would be the most common and they were issued in the Italy campaign. So if that's the scenario, a Rauchtarn would fit the best.
On the Eastern front they wore the Plane tree smock.
if they had palmentarn and rauchtarn and why not oak?
I think when there was no camo enough
they just used something else.(italian)
Found this:According to Rolf Michaelis in his book "Die Waffen-SS, Uniformen und Abzeichen", Michaelis-Verlag, Berlin, 2001, over 5000 pieces of SS oakleaf pattern camouflage clothing were taken by the Hermann Goring Division in spring 1943, at its muster, and used to equip the Panzer Grenadier, Pionier (engineer), and Aufklarungs (reconnaissance) units of that division".

I did read somewhere Sean that the SS had an "excess" of camo clothing, so while they were issued the new updatedSean wrote:Nice photo - what was the particular reason the HG div were issued W-SS smocks/Helmet covers?
stuff the Luftwaffe recieved the "outdated" old camo gear lol
Also the SS ranks had depleted somewhat since 1939/40 and more Luftwaffe personel had been recruited since then
but turned into Infantry/fighting troops rather than Luftwaffe ground crew/Pilots, think this is right as far as i can
remember, this is from memory as iam at work writing this lol

Just have a look around in the topic of the ss camouflage with the HG Division again.Mooyman > Is your claim based on those few pictures.

You don't find any oak on any photo. There's also a question from my side in that topic because it is presented in a book with uniforms.
That was just my big reason to start that topic also...
Thereby again... ofcourse they used what they could find back then... and again we have the question: "What to portrait, the big picture or the individual what you like and could have/ should have been possible?"
And that question is not up to me!

That does not seem likely, as the SS was short on camouflage clothing itself. I believe it had to do with Göring personally "arranging" stocks of camo for his "elite nazi ground fighting force"...Peiper wrote:I did read somewhere Sean that the SS had an "excess" of camo clothing, so while they were issued the new updatedSean wrote:Nice photo - what was the particular reason the HG div were issued W-SS smocks/Helmet covers?

Sheikh, how many pictures of HG soldiers in LWFeld jackets have you seen?Sheikh Al Stranghi wrote:But for the later period, a splinter B field division jacket would be best.

Much more then SS smocks I can say, the smock thing was a minority issue! Lots of pics of HG with field division jackets, from Italy onwards!

Could you post at least some of them? I`ve seen two so far, one in FD jackets with tropical LW pants that could be 11 LWFeld as well. The ones from mid 1944 would be much appreciated.dagda wrote:Much more then SS smocks I can say, the smock thing was a minority issue! Re: Suitable Camouflage Smock for an HG Division Impression?
My first advice buy some books, unfortunatly I have no scanner! They are not 11th LFD, From Anzio to East Prussia there is lots of photos of HG in Field division smocks! I say this again, The SS smock was a issued to only a small amount of field units, the Field division jacket was issued to all HG and was intended to replace the SS smocks, although you still see SS smocks in use in East Prussia 45. Hooded wehrmacht sumpf smocks were also issued to a smaller degree.

Right, 5000 "Sets" (M38 and M40 smocks with helmet covers) were sent from SS to HG.I say this again, The SS smock was a issued to only a small amount of field units, (...)
