Silver Infantry Assault badge
Evening,
I came across an Infantry Assault badge (Silver) earlier today in a local antique shop. It looked to be in good condition (I couldn't handle it unfortunately) however if it becomes apparent it is original, what would be a sensible price to pay?
Regards,
Sean

Re: Silver Infantry Assault badge
Hi sean.
My first guess would have been about £60,but looking at three sites tonight £75,£90,£95-£100(Regimentals).Malcolm Wagner£85,Battle Flag has one with missing pin £70.It depends who made it,early 'bunt metal' or zinc. The one in my own collection is the 'broken stem' version, one of the veins on the oak leaf wreath looks as if it has been bent.I'm glad I bought mine late seventies early eighties when they cost about £12-£15 then.John

Hi John,
Many thanks for the response. I'll be heading back over next week for a further look. (it's marked up at £65, so pretty much 'average')
John, would you be able to give a beginner any tips on what to look out for to confirm whether or not it is original?

Re: Silver Infantry Assault badge
now you are asking, there are so many variations of this one badge.I have Sascha Webers book on the IAB.The details should be crisp, copys are sometimes cast and you will see 'pits' in the suface.Check out German combat awards forum and the WAF forum for original pieces.Zinc is the most common type, but in some cases these are now reproduced in eastern europe. The old repro's used to be made from a lead based alloy and would bend, the best repro's were made by Rudolf Souval,Austria this firm made medals and badges during the war and continued to do so right up to the mid seventies. But these have a unique retaining hook not used by any firm of the Third Reich. It is made from a round disc and the hook is cut and bent into shape(see photo) if you see any badge with this type of clip it is post war

Re: Silver Infantry Assault badge
Made in Germany also shows up on radios and other equipment, as strange as it may seem
Re: Silver Infantry Assault badge
Yes on pre war stuff mostly and not just on civillian stuff, i have an Army style Daimon torch
with made in Germany stamped on it, also a pair of binnoculars dated 38 and a civillian style
Agfa camera from the 30's lol.
Anyway going back to the Infantry assault badge here's some things what have helped me,
looking out for bendy badges thats the first thing lol but on the Inf/Ass badge the example i have
and others ive seen usually have a copper coloured pin and most of the time no maker stamp,
when i see maker marks i get suspicious as it was only early War that these were used for the
most part and as a lot of badges were awarded mid to late War you dont see a lot of stamps
anyway thats one tip anyway lol
Hi Brigadefuhrer, what did you mean by the broken stem type, is this the detailing on the oaklaves
only haven't seen another variation of this on this badge, what is the difference on the other type
of oakleaves on this badge (Inf/Ass badge)??

Re: Silver Infantry Assault badge
Until I joined WAF & GCA forums I had'nt heard of it either, its a 'collector' term for this unknown maker of IAB,one of the leaf veins appears 'pinched/broken'.
Sascha Webers book goe's into detail of the different manufacturers of the IAB,253 pages, over a 1000 pictures and tables in full colour.ISBN:978-09797969-6-8.John"I require able bodied men, with good horse and gun.
