Hello from Switzerland

Post by 9.SS-PzDiv »

Hey everybody. I'd like to introduce myself.

I'm only 17 years old, but I've always been interested in the second world war, especially the German Army.
So initially I started with scale model building, a great hobby which I still perform. I build mostly tanks, but later I started getting interested in figures, especially german camouflage uniforms. And here we are, it's my main field of interest.

I was always dreaming about buying a "real" uniform, not just scale models. So one day I did while I was on vacation in Normandy. It wasn't planned at all, rather impulsively. Now I'm working on a Uniform for a Panzergrenadier of the 9th SS Panzerdivision Hohenstaufen in 1944. I rarely wear this uniform because I have a dummy in my room where I can see the complete gear every day.
I'm still working to complete the uniform; I've almost finished buying the right stuff. I decided to buy an Airsoft StG44, because I've always liked airsoft in general. I do have some other small airsoft firearms, too.

Here are some photos of "him". I will replace the pea dot camo uniform completely, because I don't like the quality nor the colors.
Only two things are original: the K98 Bayonet and the gas mask.

Here is a list of what I got plus what I already ordered:

M42 helmet with cover and camo net
Reversible jacket, oak leaf camo summer/winter
M44 field blouse and trousers, pea dot camo (will be replaced
M44 field blouse in field grey with insignia (not here yet)
Field shirt in field grey with suspenders
Spade with bayonet, mess tin, gas mask with can, "A-Rahmen", Zeltbahn (oak leaf summer/autumn), breadbag, belt and Y-straps
Some winter equipment such as gloves and two scarfs
FJ gloves and boots, gaiters (wrong, I know. The boots will be replaced very soon)
Stielhandgranate M42 and Eierhandgranate
StG 44 with 5 extra magazines and ammo pouches

That's it so far. I'm glad to say hello here and I hope I can lear a lot.

Cheers!

I never thought about being a Gebirgsjäger, since I'm not that enthustiastic about sports.
And also a complete Gebirgsjäger uniform + equipment would be too much for a guy at my age.

I'm from Winterhur, near Zurich.

Not familiar with that area - however , I'm sure the guys would help you with your impression and any questions - Oberleutnant Ulrich will for certain .

If you change your mind about GJ ..

Gruezi und herzlich Wilkommen! (Please stick to English on the forum though in respect for the others)

Nice to see another Swiss person on the forum. If you need any help let me know. I'm in Canada right now but will be returning late next week to Switzerland. I leave new Brienz, right in the middle of the alps as you know which is why I mainly do Gebirgsjaeger. There are a few others that are also interested in the Zuerich area that I know of. But if you ever wish to wear a German uniform outside, I do highly suggest you do switch to Gebirgsjaeger.

Thanks for your welcoming.

I do not intend to wear this uniform outside, except around my own house maybe. In general it's only for my room.
Switching to Gebirgsjäger isn't an option for me. I'm more interested in the Waffen SS and their camouflages.

Hey Arthur, maybe if that plan you showed me when I was there, materialise, it will make him switch over :)
