According to tentsmiths and their extensive research the Germans did use a dark OD on some of their staff tents

this is the chap we get all our tents from, we have done the inital research for him on patterns etc... and he has sourced the correct colour and styles of canvas, he does soem great tents and also the pegs, ropes and poles german staff tents are around £600 all in, he will even modifiy the design to your specifications such as windows etc.
