Servus Bergkameraden,

Great looking canvas Bergmütze! I think it has the correct style and look of a "true" Bergmütze. When I get back home this weekend, I'll post some photos of original ones.

Horrido!

Is there any truth in the statement that tan coloured caps were more common in Tunisia than green ones for army troops?
If we look to the units involved in the battle in Tunesia in general (including the DAK after there retreath) then the Green/DAK/Heer green muste have anyway been the colour that was more common.
Its all depending on the the photograps you are looking at... 8)

I would say : show us the photograph, as that will tell moere about unit, location and date...

DAK uniforms are seen in a variety of shades in photographs. This is mainly due to washing and fading in the sun. If you study wartime photos, early photos from the North African campaign show most troops wearing olive green tropical uniforms...later on, veterans had very faded caps and tunics and replacements are usually seen in the olive uniforms.

A great reference book to get on this subject is Robert Kurtz's book:

This book;

is indisputably the BEST reference- all original colour pics in the settings and locations we dream about. It CANNOT be beaten for histoic reference as all the pics are original and in colour. No-one can argue anything about colours because it is all in this book! Do your self a favour and grab a copy- I promise you you will be happy with it! oh, and yes it covers luftwaffe units as well!

Getting deeper in this topic I must say it get more and more my attention. So, let we stick to the M41 cap question worn by the Afrika Korps as this is complex enough (and also without Luftwaffe troops as they always did wear Tan)... But what about the colour of caps used by the rest of the DAK. Green or tan ?

Olive Green, Pietje. This is most common. In its unissued form.

Hi all,
Here's my new M41 cap from GD43. Any comments? It looks a bit 'boxy' in the pics, but when worn it looks pretty good. And yes, it is green! What do you think about the eidelweiss? I think this is the sort sold by ATF.
Cheers,
Hannibal

Pietr, they are at http://www.gd43.com/ if you want to take a look.

I'll try to take a few more pics. As I said, it looks better when it's on your head. The only dimension I know about originals is that they should be 10.5 cm high at the front. Some were made a little higher, some a little lower. This one is just over 10cm. Anyone know the correct height of the back?

Cheers :)
