If you want the confirmed awnser, then you will have to obtain German paratroopers in north africa and the ramcke brigade book, a must for any Fj reenactor anyway.

I apologise for not replying before now.. I've been at Waltham Abbey for the last two days.

I have purchased some original long, brown tropical socken from Germany eBay. However, I have also sourced long brown military tropical socks from a website in the US. When I compared the modern ones with the originals there was hardly any difference at all. The colour of the tropical socks was virtually the same as the DAK tropical greatcoat, a chocolate brown colour.

Here is the website, you need to order the US Military Bootsocks. The sizes are either small or large, I would advise ordering 'large.'

Hi Tom, nice pics. In the photo showing the two gentleman relaxing in a very 'I'm secure with my sexuality' pose, the one sitting down appears to have a dark green colar on his tunic. Any information on this? I know people used to modify later model field grey tunics by adding a bottle green collar but have not seen this kind of thing before on tropical tunics.

Hi Chris.I think his uniform may of originated in Russia,or regions where temperatures dictated a need for light weight uniforms but not necessarily tropical issue, custom made and examples are in uniforms of the SS by m beaver vol;2 but the wehrmacht had them too, colour varies from brown, grey, green and tan.Captured Russian cloth was utilized as well.
