Re: some rare footage from the Elbrus
Servus Bergkameraden,
Some nice footage of Hochgebirgsjägerkompanie Groth. This was an ad hoc unit put together with the top mountaineers from the 1st and 4th Mountain Divisions and led by Hauptmann Groth. General Lanz gave the members of this unit eagle feathers to stick into their Bergmütze as a unit symbol.
Some of the color footage show is from the 1943 Ufa film "Alert at the Pass." I think the Russians may have the only complete copy of it. Would be great to see the whole movie at some point.
Berg Heil und Horrido!

Re: some rare footage from the Elbrus
Is the color firefight real?
For a long time I taught it was a training drill because of the angles it was filmed from...but at the end it shows some dead bodies.
yea I see the feathers now..didnt even question them.
The Russians didnt forget the fight in the Kaukasus. I dont know if a movie was made about Elbrus, but this clip seems to have some re-enacted scenes.
