Home made wooden ZF4 scope box
I have had an attempt at the wooden ZF4 scope box . Its not perfect and cant seem to get the correct springy latch , or matching hinge . This my first attempt , I'm not happy and am going to re do it I feel the side timber is to thick and diamentions slightly out ( I have now found the correct measurements and all ways its out by 5mm,except the depth Unless this wont effect the scope , mount fitting inside and also allow the sun/rain shield to fit in the lid , I'm not very optimistic.
I need help here please to:
Diameter and length of the rain/sun shield,
Overall length of scope (think it goes in the box/tin with rubber eye piece on ?),
Diameter of lenses.
An original (?)

Re: Home made wooden ZF4 scope box (1st attempt)
I have now re made the box to the correct external measurements . I need the diameter of the rain / sun shield to establish how deep the lid needs to be . I have the diameter now of the lens so I'm guessing should be nearly the same. Just need the length.
Thanks and picts to follow soon.

Re: Home made wooden ZF4 scope box (1st attempt)
Now with advice from G43 (thanks mate) this project will continue . I have made the correct size box (fingers crossed) . I couldn't make the stamped out D ring mounts so I have cut up a piece of aluminum from another project and shaped it like the stamped one . This has a slot underneath to allow the D ring to fit and move.and also drilled and counter sunk this so it will screw to the box. I have now decided to use the West German canteen spring latch until I can find a more accurate version.
Pic's to follow.

Re: Home made wooden ZF4 scope box (1st attempt)
Here is the improved and more accurate ZF4 scope box . I made improvements after advice and help from G43 (thanks). The sides are just tacked on whilst I source some screws.
And now twins

Very very nice! Good job.
Would you be willing to share final plans/dimensions for the box? I don't have a zf4 but still a cool little piece to make...
Thanks for posting!

Re: Home made wooden ZF4 scope box (1st attempt)
I have now added the sun / rain shield holder and ply lining to the lid this, forms a join between the lid and bottom. All this is just loose in the pictures for now . The piece of wood that sits horizontal next to the rain / sun shield is the lid for the spare lens holder , for when the box lid is shut (this needs altering).

Re: Home made wooden ZF4 scope box
I have now added the rear belt strap. This is a piece of British P37 2" webbing . Its just held on by two strips of metal and what looks like rivets . At the mo I have drilled them and put nails through , these could possibly be bent over on the inside (still thinking on this) . There just loose as I think it will be easier to add them after painting ?
( I am going to stitch around the holes in the web to strengthen them)
