Reproduction Communication Station Flags
Reproduction Communication Station Flags and Sign I built in my workshop. The flags are constructed out of two-ply cotton duck material, the emblems are sewn on each side, 1" dowel (weathered), leather strap (from surplus French Y straps) and twine. The sign is a piece of luan wood with a printed piece of card stock glued with Modge Podge.

Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags
Did you make these using your own measurements? Could you provide a length and width, I would like to try my hand at this. Thanks

Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags
Nice work! I've made some like these too, I hand-stenciled the markings with outdoor paint though.

They're about 50cm tall, 40cm wide, per http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/photos/H085463.html

Thanks, the original shown looks like it is a paint and not a stitched letter. I'll take your route and use paint, seems like a lot less work and looks great. Thanks!
Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags
The F flag is 19 3/4" x 15 3/4", the F is 9 1/2" x 6 1/4", 1 3/4" thick. The arrow is 10 1/4" long, 1" thick. The Lightning Bolt flag's dimensions are the same but reversed. Good luck send me picture when you finish your project.Panzer212 wrote:Did you make these using your own measurements? Could you provide a length and width, I would like to try my hand at this. Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags
Gents - just one thing.... The Lightning does not necessarily has a 'show direction' purpose...
Assuming that the banners had the same size "F with arrow" and "lightning", it would be more logical to have them both vertically. The following pics show a recent ebay auction (unfortunately I wasn't the lucky buyer) and some pics I've found around the "F with arrow" banner...
If someone has any pics of the lightning banner incl the batons - please add them here I've studied all my books to find an evidence (original photo) for the banner unfortunately without success.

Just got the input that the flash was horizontal and not as I thought vertical....

Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags
Got some spare time today... used it to generate sketches...
Based on a Quote from Funksammler: "I measure my "Blitz" flag 44 cm square, while my "F" flag is 38 x 48 cm (same as the Collector's Guild example), so it seems that sizes could vary. They are typically maker marked and Wa.A stamped on the leather tab. This should help you tell them apart from post war examples..."
Any objections?

Re: Reproduction Communication Station Flags
I like your sketches (did you draw them on sketch up) however the arrow and the lightening bolt should be facing the same direction when the flag sides are unfolded in the assembly as you illustrated. This is because regardless of either side you are viewing the flag it is pointing you in the same intended direction.
