Leibermuster

What do you think of Barry's Leibermuster camo?

I'm thinking of doing a somewhat fictional last week of the war Impression on the side for some fun. That would be taking a STG-44 and adding the infra-red sights and battery pack and full leibermuster camo. As I said, it's for fun, not a serious Impression I plan to use, just a winter project. Might bring it along to an Event only as a decoration type thing during the evening for a laugh. But despite it being for fun, I plan to do it right.

Yeah, I was thinking something last few weeks of the war in Germany, a senior NCO decked out in the latest fashion, just for fun.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure I've seen other pics on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum (unpublished from private collections), possibly in the Czech Republic - in a column of POW's I think. Not as many pics from 1945, than say 44 due to the chaos of the time - I wonder if it was worn in the last few weeks more than we think?

If I was made, as we know it was, then they wouldn't have just made 100 or so, but probably enough to outfit at least a couple regiments, as it would make sense to mass produce a whole bunch at one time...more cost effective. So could be some units at the very end got a hold of a stockpile or some trains were loaded with some and sent to some of the last of the fighting zones...

There are a pile more photos of this camouflage in use, not just the one shot of the prisoners in the Beaver book. As one of the members alluded to above, there was a whole thread of photos, from the WAF site, IIRC, Pomerania, mostly Heer members wearing alot of Liebermuster.

I'll be joining you in that regard. I just got the Leiber stuff from Spearhead. So far it's the best I've seen, I've had a chance to see it in person and matches up quite well.

There's another picture floating about somewhere on
here as far as i can remember of the Leibermuster
being worn, it shows two soldiers, one with a bandaged
head and the other straddling a motorcycle, taken in
Hungary 1945. i believe ??

I know of this photo but haven't seen it in a long time. I hate when you see a photo on the net, think "Oh I can find it in no time" then you forget and search in vain...

The only good reproduction of liebermuster was produced in the Czech republic a few years ago and its pretty correct. Zeugmeisterei used to sell it and ive got one. The other Chinese made ones arent accurate at all, as Ive compared them to mine, wrong colours. wrong pattern, wrong everything.

Not trying to say this in a mean way, but how can one say it is wrong unless comparing it to an original...black and white pictures only go so far. I would say the closest we have to originals is the Swiss camo that copied the German Leibermuster to a certain degree.

We approach the problem reenactors face in the 80's, lack of manufacturers.

SM Wholesale won't touch Leibermuster as the market for it is very very small, Underwood doesn't sell it (save for that one off) and only the Chinese and Singapore (arguably where Underwood gets his stuff) is making it. So you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Spearhead's:

I myself have seen the Singapore Leibermuster in the flesh, produced by Spearhead and to be honest it's as close as we're going to get period. The stitch nazis who will say "oh it's so wrong" will gripe, but really it is your dough and if you've weathered the "oh it was never worn!" comments you can handle just about anything else. I myself bought the Spearhead Parka, and will be buying the tunic/trousers/winter trousers around x-mas. I contact Spearhead and they've signed off on sending me the "unvintaged" version of their trousers, and hopefully they can do the same for the hat.

Pass me your details if you're in the UK, we'll throw a Leibermuster party!

Ok, I've compared mine to surviving examples in books I have.barrys stuff is nothing like the originals! Get the books and do some research! Not a criticism, but that's what it is all about!
