Does being in the Military give you problems reenacting?

Post by Cody Countryman »

I'm stationed here in Southern California and was curious if any one else in the Military gets into trouble or is looked down upon for reenacting the Axis side?

Certainly heard of people getting a hard time about it, best kept quiet I should think.

I wasn't really interested in Boche stuff when I was in, I was in some allied groups though but I didn't go around advertising the fact I was in reenactment groups as most of them would take the piss or give you a funny look tbh.

Sometimes got made fun of a bit from time to time, but in the end they thought it was cool as I brought in some bits and pieces for field exercises. Also, I carried a Walther P-38 on me instead of my service pistol. First, rank has its priviledges and secondly the reserves were more lenient.

Army Guard here, some of my buddies and my platoon leadership know about my hobby. I don't overtly advertise the fact that I participate in WW2 reenacting or that I portray Germans, but if someone ask's I don't deny it either. Frankly I don't think they care what I do, that being said once a drill weekend is over it is out of sight and out of mind until the next month.
