Who is the best retailer or vendor for reproduction M35 or M40 helmets? I need a big shell, I'm wearing a 58-59 and most original shells i've seen are 64 or 66 shells. I've seen an original 68 shell last weekend at a fair and the bloke asked almost a fortune for a helmet that was not in mint condition and all painted in white?

So, I'm thinking now of getting me a repro and a Spanish one isn't an option.

Have you tried these guys?

Never had anything off them but they always seem to have plenty knocking about.

I haven't had any dealings, but by the look of some of the stuff on the site......
A wide berth is my advice.

Really? I thought some of their shells were pretty good and decently priced.

A lot of Norwegian fire helmets there, they are German made but not worth that price

...was gonna throw a liner in it and camo it up.

Not worth it?

It's not too bad a price I suppose, and once it's tarted up it'll look good (depending on your painting skills  )
It seems only recently that people have cottoned on to the fact that these helmets are originally German and not foreign made, hence why the price is going up, it's the same with the Irish M16 ones made by Vickers, I remember once some people were throwing them away because they weren't proper Deutsch ones!!! , now they're like a crap Mr. Kipling cake=exceedingly rare

hmmmmm, if you are a 58/59, as I am, then a size 66 shell is totally what you need. The 56/57's went into a 64, the 58/59's into a 66 and the 60/61's into a 68 and so on. If a 66 is too small then I would suggest you are not a size 58/59? Just an obsevation. :)

Also, the shells sold by B&S are indeed original shells that were re-used by the Norgies after the war and repainted black. Great if you want to resto a helmet but not pay the At the Front restified helmet price. Alternativley, try Vit Zemanek on eBay for similar shells. they also are not cheap any more but if you want a genuine shell rather than a mis-shaped cheap Chinese repo, then you gotta pay ya dues, fella!

I have been buying and restoring these black shells for some time and it just goes to show that there are people out there who just don't understand what they are loooking at. They are GENUINE, Third Riech issue shells but just re-painted. In the raw. REAL! Obviously the bigger the shell, the more expensive as there were less made of the bigger sizes with blokes noggin's being generally about the 57/58 mark as average in the forties. Add some repor rivets and a good Czech made repor liner and you are well on the way to having something that is the CORRECT shape, weight etc and will not be ruined by field use a an original wouyld be. also, the liner will not fall apart on your head like an original will.

By all means steer clear of this guy if you wish, but I'm tellin ya, they won't last forever and if you don't get in now, one day you will be paying a similar price for a crap repro re-painted!
