SS Medical Academy Graz

In 1937 the SS Medical Academy was founded in Berlin the idea was to train active duty SS medical officers for the waffen SS and Police. At first it was in a rented house on Friederichstrasse and had only 20 SS medical officer candidates,Who did most of there studying at the University of Berlin. From 1937 to 1939 the commander of the Academy SS-Stubaf .Dr .Jencio In the Autumn of 1940 the Academy was moved to Graz Austria to Rosenbergguertel 12 the Former state run institution for the deaf and dum.Here it would stay till it was closed just before Graz fell to the allied troops . At first some of the candidates came from the Heer,Luftwaffe,Kriegsmarine once they graduated the would transfer to W-SS
,SS-TV, Allgemeine SS and Police.Waffen SS candidates would first have to pass out from the SS Junkerschule with the rank of Unterstrumfuhrer before they were allowed to attend the medical academy Staff and students were issued with the cuff-title " SS-Artzliche Akademie"this was to be used during there time at the academy .
After they completed an initial physicians training course,the students would be moved on to a second training course after all this the students would sit the state medical exam all those who passed would be promoted to the rank of Oberstrumfuehrer and allowed to go to the university of there choice to study the specialty that they wish to train in
The start of WWII drastically changed the SS medical academy and changed some of the way it worked it now had to change civilian doctors into military doctors who would be tought troop hygine,and new medical developments

The training courses were designed to run as follows
5 Terms (semesters) in preliminary training
2½ years clinical training
Once completed and the exam passed and the studies at university finished the SS graduate was to practice for one year at an SS hospital. An interesting not is that it was estimated it would take 8 to 8½ years to train to become a Fully trained SS physician

During the training there was also time set aside for non medical training Truck/ ambulance driving sports ,Horsemanship .As the medical officers would be tought by military interpretors English,French,Italian for treating enemy and allied troops.
