Some really nice footage , thank you.
Until several years ago I was in contact with a gent from Freemantle (The late Eddy Edwards) who was second pilot to Ted Jervis when his 209 Catalina took over cover on 570 from the Hudson which had accepted her surrender, they stayed over her until the tug "Northern Chief" and surface forces arrived.

The British ran tests on everything in the boat - down even to captured binoculars - a comparitive study with their own Naval sets provided by contract from Barr and Stroud ( Glasgow).
Comments on the UZO / UDF and the telescope are interesting - often Zeiss is deemed to be flawless but the Glasgow produced Barr and Stroud would seem to have some advantages.
The intelligance report on the boat is currently available from.

( See U-boat section Volume 7).

Whilst I am not a great "fan" of many intenet sites this is a rare exception.
