Re: Another event crashed by us :P
A word that rhymes with 'patriotic' comes to mind... both for the author of the article, and some of the critters on display.

Field Division collar tabs
So a question arose in my local group: how many of the FD units were issued the initial waffenfarbe-piped collar tabs, versus the later unpiped green collar tabs? We're just looking for a rough percentage, of how likely it was for a unit to received either. My reading has suggested that the unpiped ...

Re: Show us you!
Also, a quick bit of advice on Dot44: the regulations stated that you only wore the arm eagle on it, nothing else (no collar tabs, no shoulder boards, etc - bling on camo defeats the purposes of camo, obviously). The green sleeve-mounted rank bars were worn, apparently, but very rarely. However, as ...

Re: So...why is this forum dying on it's ass?
For our group, I keep the guys busy - physically busy - so that they collapse at the end of the day, sleep like rocks through the night (it helps to be tired when sleeping in a comfortless foxhole), and then spend the next morning raving about how much fun they had :P Extremes aside though, keeping ...

Re: So...why is this forum dying on it's ass?
We're also seeing the Beer Tent phenomenon taking over in SA at public events, as small as the scene is here. You struggle to find a picture that does not involve red-faced buffoons clutching beer tankards and looking inappropriate. If the highlight of the show is getting a biker girl to pose toples...

Seen the same in South Africa. Forum trafficked slumped in 2013, and ended in 2014. Only ghosts and bots now. Everyone has moved to FB (ease of use / access / photo uploads) :-/

Re: Aging uniforms
Drillich is a funny one - I've noticed it ages in phases: - After the first wash, you have a bit of shrinkage, and the herringbone pattern lifts out - i.e. becomes more prominent. Almost a "striped pajamas" look. - UV bleaches it quite quickly, especially here in Africa. After 5-6 days in ...

Civic helmets: M34, Gladiator
Hi all I'm looking for a civic helmet - M34 or the Gladiator (1- or 2-piece) - for a civilian impression, but I am having trouble finding anything larger than a 57 liner size! I need a 61 to fit my large pip - any ideas of where to look? I trawled through ebay.de for a while, but could not find anyt...

Re: MG42 firing rate
Wikipedia was where I went to check that my initial recollection of 20 RPS had been correct. All my reference books also back that up - hence the initial puzzlement over these rates of 25+ RPS. Will keep digging.

Re: MG42 firing rate
So... not really much evidence of the ground-used models going over 20 RPS? I would love to see that 1,500 RPM muzzle booster, btw - please share a pic if you can!

MG42 firing rate
In a recent discussion with a fellow WW2 / German enthusiast, the topic of MG firing rates came up, and the figure of 26-30 RPS (rounds per second) was mentioned for the MG42. This took me quite aback, as I always had the figure of 1,200 RPM / 20 RPS in mind. Does anyone have info on these "fas...
