Re: Unidentified part .... vehicle or ?

To me it looks like one of two things a) part of a spring shackle from a truck or b) part of a pittman arm / drag link assembly.

Re: Officer Kragenbinde Question

We used to get them from the PX / Commissary but any good US Marine Corps uniform shop will have them. The Marine Shop is one good example here in Virginia: http://www.marineshop.net/br...

Re: Decalhelmet vs. Czech Made Helmet Decals Who is Best?

Here are some detail shots of the decalhelmet eagle and an original one for comparison. The decalhelmet eagle seems to have greenish lines on the edges by the black border but this is just a trick of the camera and they are not visible to the eye on close direct examination. I know the original is k...

Re: Decalhelmet vs. Czech Made Helmet Decals Who is Best?

Well, I ordered a perfect lacquer 2nd model luftwaffe decal from decalhelmet and received it about 10 days later. It was carefully packaged and arrived in good condition. It was a little bit difficult lining the bird up properly when applying it to the stahlhelm from the reverse - definately more di...

Re: Panther Store Fliegerbluse

I ordered one this past winter for use in the spring events, and it compares favorably with originals I have owned and handled. The wool is high quality material that is tightly woven -- can't see sunlight through it, and all the details are there for stitching and components. The only weaknesses at...

Re: Decalhelmet vs. Czech Made Helmet Decals Who is Best?

Stig, I had completely forgotten about John at German Helmet Decals...I lost his link in my last hard drive crash. I will order from both him and from decalhelmet and compare with my original when I can get them all together, though that may take a few weeks  I've been doing Luftwaffe at local...

Decalhelmet vs. Czech Made Helmet Decals Who is Best?

Hi All, I am in the process of restoring an original M42 helmet shell for a Luftwaffe impression, and I am pondering which is the best repro helmet decal to obtain, so I am looking for feedback on these decal types / makers to weigh them up againt each other. Hessen has the Czech decals and I have d...

Wasn't this the film where the main character was being repatriated from East to West (during the cold war period) in an exchange across a bridge and was locked out by both sides? It's been a long time since I saw this series... Bob

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie...Interesting...

As far as authenticity goes one big thing these guys have going for them is their extreme youth. Most Hollywood movies feature actors that are far too old for their roles. bob

Re: Hello, from Virginia

Well, yes I've known Jim Poole a number of years -- about 9 actually -- but I don't get to see him very often. He is the kind of reenactor I really like - someone who will see just what the neatest items are and then make them up himself to smarten up his kit and his buddies kit. As for impressions ...

I'm from the town of Smithfield in Isle of Wight County, about 20 miles down and across the James River from Jamestown, site of the first sucessful settlement by the Virginia Company in 1607.

Re: Identification of bags on chest !

It looks to be the Gasmakse 24; a Reichswehr model that came in two configurations, the one shown as above in the photos and one which was issued in a carrier very similar to the SBR types issued by Britain and USA. These were in production up until at least 1932. These were issued mainly to trainin...
