Fitness

For me fitness is an important part of reenactment, its authentic and it stops ya from hurting yourself!
But i was wondering what sort of regs and general fitness stuff the germans did in their training?
Press ups? Sit ups?
Guess i needa get myself a set of the off white hbts for training too.

Re: Thunder from Hell, house clearing with the waffen ss

Indeed alittle bunched but i thought it really looked like a cohesive combat unit, i loved the house clearing as this was some of the most brutual fighting men had to go through the old "Rattenkrieg".

Re: This is frikkin bizarre

A good read is 'Gulag' by anne applebaum. Both sides did terrible things, all countries have really and we shouldnt be arguing over who did the most wrong, as reenactors we want to make sure what happened is remembered so we can never let it happen again. That was a refreshing and good post PD! Kind...

Re: The reason for the anti-Waffen-SS disclaimer

I understand what ya mean sorrow its just we have to be really careful what we say because you know what the medias like, its not like they spend any time reporting a decent story lol  Political stuff shouldnt really be discussed on the open forum or on any forum really or at events, just a ru...

Re: Soldier's Operations load

well i guess i ment reenactment situation wise usually theres tentage areas etc, but for an training 48 hr were yer constantly moving a tornister isnt needed, your pockets, breadbag and A frame will do as you can put your greatcoat or blanket on the A-frame, or carry both one on the Aframe and the b...

Re: Soldier's Operations load

You'd dump yer ruck in the zelt or wherver you are sleeping but as said stick on the a-frame when going
out on patrol. Which reminds me of tha fact that i wana get a tornister and an a-frame

Re: Soldier's Operations load

I think the a-frame was more of an 'issued when needed' item like Heer camo, ie yer assualting an enemy postion and you may not be releived for a couple of days so you need something to carry yer cooking gear in (plus it makes ALOT less noise than having the canteen and messtin clattering away on th...

Re: Heer Pionier Impression

Uniform is no different than regular infantry, i think their badge was the same 'F' symbol but backed on feldgrau rather than the black of the waffen. Just dont quote me on that lol i'am probably wrong! Theres quite a few various roles for the pioneers, assault, mine clearing, bridge building, clear...

Re: Pioneer impression

Well i got the book 'Pioniere der waffen SS im bild', took ages to arrive from america! Strange thing is i cant see anyone with the trade patch, alot of the combat pics arent clear enough to get a good look and the ones that are dont have em. Was it only certain sections who had them, strangely enou...

Re: Fav suppliers!!

I agree on the footwear, NEVER skimp on it! Imho its probably the first piece of kit you should get along with a belt that fits, as other bits of field gear you can borrow etc but id the belt is far to tight or loose then yer buggered! Same with footwear youll have no skin left on your ankles! Under...

Re: May 1940 campaign research

Yep its the refilable type but the airflow is fine and none of the parts are clogged, i think its something to do with the vaccuum seal so without that it doesnt suck up the paint, going round to my uncles whos used these alot to see if he can fix it!
