I have to echo geoffpara. Tim was a great guy. Simple as that. A very genuine fella who spoke ill of no one and someone who no one had a bad word to say about.
You'll be greatly missed mate.

Re: 100 Days – The Waffen-SS and the Siege of Budapest
To anyone who plans to visit Budapest, I really suggest you visit the military museum on Castle Hill. They have a really extensive collection of WW1 and 2, a quite touching exhibition about the 1956 uprising as well as Medieval - to 19th century stuff. I spent a few hours in there but could have spe...

Re: Ration cards
I gave one of these to my other half on Feb 14th as I was too broke/tight to buy her some flowers.
I think her stoney silence said a lot

Re: Reichsführer Himmler impression !
I have a pal who lives near Munich - he is a real Himmler. The family decided that just because one of their relatives was a chinless wonder with serious "issues", that was no reason to change the name - afterall, there had been generations of good, decent Himmlers. I always have a smile w...

Re: Complete FJ wrongness
Not specifically "FJ wrongness", a bit more general:
the use of modern, elasticated British army braces by German re-enactors. For sure, if you feel the need, wear a pair of period liberated Allied braces....but modern British ones look just like modern British ones

Re: Repro Bergmütze questions
Gruss di Jungen, Not strictly WW2 related but: How do WW1 Skijaeger Muetzen compare with those issued by the WH? If I bought a repro WH one and changed the insignia, would that work or is the design too different? Without having an original to work from its a bit difficult knowing the differences.Do...

Re: Complete FJ wrongness
There is a pic in "FJR 3" taken in Italy with a guy in splinter trousers. I think that the pic is pretty late in the war although without a copy in front of me I could not say for sure when it was taken. That book has several examples of weird knocked-up items being worn, most obvious bein...

First pattern boots being worn at late war events. Just look at some of the pictures from "Kreta - Sieg der kuhnsten". The boots are often in a really shoddy state after quite a short time in the field. Sure they would be resoled but by 1945 those boots will be sh*gged. "Well they we...

Re: Male civilian suit
The supply would have quickly ran out but pre-war British suits were popular - they had a bit more space in the arse region. After the fall of France, french labels were popular. As the situation gets worse in Germany, the quality of civvy material (just like uniform material) really goes down hill, ...

Re: FJ POW's with wounded British soldier
In Vol II of "FJR 3" the FJ are named. I no longer have a copy so can't comment on the names. I used this pic in my thesis- the injury was a result of stepping on a Schumine.

Re: How to clean a Feldfläsche ?
You often see "Rare FJ/FD water bottle...mint" etc. These have a blue cover, blue cup and black straps. They are actually post-war police. Most that turn up are unissued and as new. Perfectly safe to drink out of. Expect to pay £20-25. If the hook was changed on the straps, you could use t...

Re: How to clean a Feldfläsche ?
Generally its safer to drink Wodka or Korn straight out the bottle (make sure its a glass bottle) so there really is no need to clean your Feldflasche
