Re: are chinese companies any good?
China quality is generally dubious, but their low cost makes them perfect for entry-level purchases. Yes, we've all been told - and most of us agree with - that you only buy once, and buy right... but how many people would never even join the community, if all tunics cost $200 instead of $50? I star...

Re: SS Auschwitz trial to go ahead
And the irony is, 50 years from now, people will be persecuting the Israelis for their genocide against the Palestinians. Round and round, the wheels of hatred go, spinning perpetually and going nowhere. What is the point? Look at South Africa, my own country. During the Anglo-Boer War, the British ...

German mortar training
I'm looking for information on the German 50mm and 81mm mortars, specifically the training that went into their use: - basic operation of the mortar - calibration and use of the sights - techniques for ranging and correction of fire - roles of individual members (Gunner 1/2, Assistant 1/2, etc) - et...

I am all in favour of more tropical kit - South Africa is too damn hot to re-enact in wool, even in winter...
Speaking of: LW drillich tunics in blue material - any chance of seeing them? I know Spearhead has/had them. Some background on their use and issue would also be great.

Re: Insignia for GFP impression
I got the same response from her: she can't afford to buy masses of the insignia (as sold by the fabricators), and then have it sitting on the stock shelves for years. Makes sense, from a supplier's viewpoint, but also sucks a bit for someone looking for only one set instead of 10+...

Re: Insignia for GFP impression
Ok, so Historic Militaria no longer stocks the Heer GFP insignia, and cannot restock them due to concerns regarding the original fabricators.
Any other ideas for sources of GFP insignia?

Re: Insignia for GFP impression
Thanks, I've been looking at that exact site :) However, I am not finding the Heer GFP insignia for an Oberleutnant there (unless I'm missing something). - The litzen, per my reading, should be regular Heer ones, officer grade with silver wire, on a dark green base and with the blue-gray nebenfarbe ...

Insignia for GFP impression
I recently acquired several Osprey and MAA books on the German police, field police and other police-like units, and the GFP - Geheime Feldpolizei - caught my attention. I started looking for insignia for them (litzen, shoulder boards) and pulled a complete blank for the Heer GFP. For the Luftwaffe ...

LW tropical trousers in Italy
I'm trying to prepare for an upcoming summer event we have slated for December, which plays off in Italy in the summer of '44 (expected temperature at event = 30+ degrees Celsius, with heavy thundershowers). I will be portraying a regular Heer rifleman, with an M43 HBT tunic (reed green, not DAK) - ...
