Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
Dave Lapworth. Ah, that'll be Dave G's deeper Suffolk twang i mis-head. Apologies Dave L. Anyway, a few snaps taken by me. No where near as atmospheric as some posted earlier though. Tweaked them to give it that 'Agfa' feel tho... http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n160/supermario999/breakout4.jpg M...

Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
I would just like to say, on behalf of myself and Dave G, a big thank you to all the German forces who attended the event. It was great to see such a dedicated turnout, and each of you did your respective units/groups proud by entering into the spirit of the event. Ok, so we didn't have snow, and we...

Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
As an addition, lighting for the evening should be candles, hindenburg candles or parafin lamps. No Gaz-burners giving off 100% white light. In order to get this feeling right, its got to look right, but common sense required when dealing with naked flames and straw. I don't want a hut and its occup...

Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
Think I will opt for the cardboard/straw with the car as fall back. I see the point with calling it "Living History" but this has to be tempered with common sense with it being winter and a long drive for many on the Sunday. As with all these events, one has to make of it, and take away f...

Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
Paul, regarding the living history aspect, in historical context and from contempoary evidence, this is what was done. Troops (Alpini) - commandeered local accomodation and immediately got the fires burning. Straw was sourced, but beds were available. These were utilised. Wounded troops were then fe...

here's a little film clip of what the troops endured.

The comments below the clip are the usual xenophobic rhetoric so oft seen on Youtube. So many new swear words appear.

Re: Italian Carcano Cavalry Carbine Sling
Guys, At this moment in time, slings seem to be the hardest thing to come by. There are two basic types. One has a buckle arrangement, the other the rocker slider arrangement, much like the K98 sling. Just been through the usual suspects websites, and they don't have any at the moment. I'll keep you...

Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
As Paul posted some excellent shots of the Tedeschi kit he will be wearing (and offering a guide for others), here is a visual guide for any prospective Italian troops out there, who intend to break the back of the Bolshevik Bear.... http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n160/supermario999/donbatkit.jp...

Re: NEW EASTERN FRONT EVENT
The event is set in early 1943. Don front, and the breakout of the encirclement of the German 298th Div and the Corpo D'ell Alpin. A successful breakout, led by the Italians was achieved, all axis units within this pocket giving themselves over to the Alpini command, as they were deemed the speciali...

Re: ITALIAN FRONT SCENARIO 29TH 30TH NOVEMBER '08
Good luck with this event. As you would've seen, i'm involved in a Russian Front scenario with D Grover from TFH. However, should the opportunity ever rears its head again, keep us in mind to reenact Italian troops on the Italian front. Could do a great turn as Nembo para's and the 'Gucci' Decima Ma...

Re: Question Folks
I agree. I think the price of uniforms and equipment being much lower are bringing more people into the hobby. WW2 reenactment is the fastest growing in relation to the other periods. There is a bigger scope to do, and with vendors all over the world competing for sales, its just been a boon for us ...

Re: Uniform supplier....
Jay, I understand your sentiments. You know i respect the way you organise your group. I'm a firm believer in if your able to make it, then make it yourself. Chinese vendors can be quite scrupolous, and HKK has certainly left an impression on us. However, we also recognise that in the current financ...

Re: Italian Quarter shelter tents in German Use..
Thanks for posting Ringer, Interesting pic. Did the pic say what area of ops those German troops were in at all? I see from the photo, that that is probably a square poncho, as there appears to be a German zelt acros the top of it, and as the buttons don't meet, the troops seem to have 'fixed' them ...

Re: Italian Quarter shelter tents in German Use..
Stig, Thanks for that. My interest regarding the use is down to a 'Is it authentic?' slant. Before anyone thinks i'm having a pop, far from it. What i was hoping for is to see some WW2 Contemporary photo's showing them in use, in that fashion, by German troops. I know its easy to pic up Italian shel...
