No, I dont think so. It looks like 2 buttons are hidden behind the turnback.

Nah, Stig's right, that's a six button tunic, but some of the ss were issued with six button Heer tunic's.

Are the tunics wool or HBT's I wounder. If you zoom in on a couple of the tunics they don't appear to have belt hook holes. The don't look as if they've been shortened so could they be HBT's with the hooks at the side?

Great colour photo by the way. Any info on it?

I don't have any info about the photo, other than that it was probably taken by Life magazine, since they got their watermark on it, but i do have it in much higher res.

Ahhh, now you can see the belt hook holes on the young lad with the rank insignia on his sleeve. Thanks for posting. No bravado for these guys, another thing we sometimes get wrong when we get captured.

The rank patch on the lad far right is very dark. Looks black rather than bottle green. Could be the light but it does appear very dark.

Guy in centre seems to be wearing one. Could the others be wearing collarless ones?

Due to the heat I bet most weren't wearing shirts. I have done this at events and it's not that bad.

Wool is fun.
