Sewing tip please

Post by Halle »

Greetings all ,
I am struggling to sew a combined T - shaped eagle and cockade to my cap - I can't stop the threads of the machinework at the back fraying after I have cut out the eagle etc . My usual Taylor is out of commission at the moment so I need to do this myself - any tips ?

Thanks ,

Steve .

You nead to leave more edge - fold it under and glue it - let it dry - then stitch it on

Wonderweb the whole piece first before trying to sew it on.

I glue it as well, but irons every edge one edge at the time :D

Thank you gents , I was wondering about the glues impact on the material , wonderweb it is - I think it's gonna be a fiddley operation come what may - I'm handy enough with a needle and thread , but that's as far as it goes

Horrido !

I know my method may be regarded as heresy, but I cover the back of the whole insignia with copydex. After it's dry, trim the bevo right back to the line of the edge of the insignia proper and then you can sew with ease. It's a rubber-based compound so it won't harm the wool of the tunic. The only down side is it's a bit tough sometimes to get the needle through, so make sure it's sharp.
