Some of the jackets came with china-buttons, as our plastic buttons ran out :D

We are producing repro metal buttons as well as other items. All depends on how many people buy the jackets etc. (if it's profitable enough).

I'm also the guy behind producing the original prototypes for Hiki store jackets etc. so it's still all same source.

You'll want to change the plastic buttons too anyway, so doesn't really matter which of current models you get : )

Anyone able to point me in the right direction for a few good reference books on Finnish uniforms and equipment?

I picked up ONE decent book last month at the Tamarms show in Tampere, to get me started
(Plus the girlfriend treated me to a nice SA marked 1917-dated German ammo pouch)
The uniform book I have is ASEPUKU M/36. Looks like an excellent source given the level of detail, plus ths added bonus of also having some paragraphs in English.

Last November at the Stockholm Militariamassen I also grabbed a copy of the Helsinki Military Museum book on Finnish helmets, TERASKYPARA SUOMEN PUOLUSTUSVOIMISSA

All help much appreciated...as kit wise I have an M22 belt buckle in one of my own make belts, plus the above mentioned triple ammo pouch

I have tried to find good books as well but commend up empty handed.

But I have found a web site that might be of some use

http://www.grantsmilitaria.com/militari ... ==,%27,%27

The only book I have that mention uniforms is a Osprey booklet "Finland at war 1939-1945"
http://www.ospreypublishing.com/store/F ... 1841769691

Otherwise this is a great source of original photos http://sa-kuva.fi/neo?tem=webneoswe

If you need some help in putting together a uniform and gear, send me a pm and I'll help you :)

My first try as a Vänrikki just for fun :)

Look for a copy of the uniform book I bought at the Tamarms Show "ASEPUKU M/36". It was made by the Wiking re-enactment group - lots of good photos - plus it is in both Finnish and English text; makes it very worthwhile to have as reference. Rather than search on Amazon, use www.abebooks.com - cheaper prices there.

Where did you find your M36 summer tunic?
Is it one of the Varusteleka ones?

Sweet I have been looking for that book!

No this is in my eyes a lesser repro I got. Bought it from a friend but if you want a spot on summer tunic this one is the best on the market. http://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/f ... epro/23656

Might be, don't know for sure. I've talked to my friend Petri who works at Varusteleka and he says they will get straight Finnish trousers in the future sometimes. But I think ston grey German trousers will do for the time be. :)

Hi the discussion about Hiki uniforms above are a few years old now.
Can anyone comment on the quality of M36 they are currently selling?

Also is there anyone still selling the Summer tunics?

Hiki is still there
http://www.hikishop.com

Finnish reenactors seem to wear his winter tunics (I think he provides the correct buttons now) and I'm happy with my two but no idea what his summer tunics are like (see his web site). I have two which probably came from one of the films the Finns did a few years ago (one has no belt hoops etc and would be a long shot tunic and the other is an infantry captain's tunic with full detailing). I was thinking of getting one of Hiki's summer tunics since these make great summer jackets!

You could also check out the link below which used to stock Hiki's tunics and supply other Finnish militaria

I'm still waiting on mine. But the straight leg stone grey trousers they sell are decent. The prong-style equipment belt appropriate for Continuation War is OK too...very light and needs a lot of mink oil or brown dye.

I'm curious if they've improved their M/36 caps, myself. I have tried to order one of Varusteleka's Sarma repros but I can't seem to make a payment to them from the US to complete the transaction. They don't use PayPal; Hiki does. If Hiki's hats are of better quality now, I'd probably grab one from them just because I haven't had any transaction issues like I have with Varusteleka. But if they still don't look right, I won't waste the money.

Any input on the Hiki M/36 caps?
