Started doing FJ for a while but cant seem to find someone that sells a size 71 shell and a 60/61 liner, they all seem to be sold out. HAve bought 2 of ebay but they both are tiny even though they say they are 71/60 can any one help.

Hello,

I have an "At The Front" FJ helmet I bought direct from them about 5 years ago before they started stamping the inner shell with the CKL71 codes.

The liner is a true 61, with the shell clearly being a 71.

These are, or at least were, considered the best repro FJ helmets on the market I am looking at selling this helmet if you are interested? please let me know and I will post pictures for you and for the benefit of everyone else for reference purposes.

Regards,

Mark.

Whats the situation today, with FJ helmets and liners?
I'm searching for an accurate 68cm shell and 58cm liner. Sturms looks terrible, and I'm not too sure about the ones I can find on ebay. Any suggestions (within a reasonable price range)?

Its not going to happen unless you pay the money for the US made shells Im afraid. Thats it in a nutshell, as far as I know all other repro shells are 71. I agree its a bit crap at the moment, as a few years ago At the front and Gmax had excellent products!

Thats a real shame.
Now, if I were to get an 71cm shell with a 58cm liner, what options do I then have?

Hello,

Strictly speaking 71 shells were not fitted with 58 liners, however this is not to say it did not happen.

I spend a lot of time on the Wehrmacht Awards Forum and you will see occasioinally "un messed with" 71 shells with smaller liners particualarly on late war period helmets, in summary, they made use of what was available as the war drew to a close, IMO :D

A 58 size head in a 71 shell would not look disproportionate 8)

Happy hunting,

Mark.

Yeah, I know it's a bit off to do so :) Problem is that my head is a size 58, I really want a FJ lid, and I'm not really prepared to pay what FJ werke charge (despite their helmets being extremely nice).
There must be other FJ reenactors with smaller heads than the 71cm shell accommodates, that have found a workable and acceptable solution.

Any vendor suggestions?

Am I btw. correct in my observation that the Sturm shells have a much too angled cut-out at the front?

ok, just get the US shell and put your own linerand chin straps in it... the US shell is worth every penny when you consider how well it stacks up against an original shell.

That may be so! But its silly money! My original shell with a repro (non Chinese liner) was still cheaper then what they look for!
