Not exactly, sir ;) GJ were issued with Gebirgsrucksacs where integral straps were serving also as support straps, hooked onto ammo pouches. Those were issued long before the war.

I had assumed that GJ would be awarded the General Assualt badge, rather than the Infantry Assault badge, since they weren't strictly classed as Infanterie - but there are loads of pics here that show I must be wrong.

Servus Steiner,

Gebirgsjägers are classified as Mountain Infantry, and were considered by the German Army as Elite Troops. But only the rifle regiments within the Gebirgsdivision would qualify for the Infantry Assault Badge. Other units, like Gebirgspionier, Gebirgsartillerie, etc, within the division would qualify for the General Assault Badge...just like in a regular Infantry Division.

Servus Steiner,

Only the HQ and the rifle regiments within the Gebirgsdivision wore Green Waffenfarb on their shoulder boards. The other elements within the Gebirgsdivision would wear their appropriate Waffenfarbe....Gebirgsartillerie - Red; Gebirgspionier - Black; Gebirgsnachrichten - Yellow; Gebirgspanzerabwehr - Pink; Gebirgssanitäts - Blue; etc.
