What do your Family think of reenacting?

Post by Gilhusen »

I was looking at all the SS debates and was wondering what the general feel was for re-enactment by family so what do your family think about reacting Germans? My dad is all for it, he finds the histroy behide itvery interesting and wishes he could take aprt if he didn't,work so much (mainly because of the uniforms) my mother hates it; she thinks it’s horrible because of what they did in WW2 and refuse to take any part in it, but shes kind of neutral.

Well I don't know what my dad would think of me re-enacting as he's been dead for thirtyfive years,he did'nt mind me collecting german stuff and my old mum knows Im not going to change now  .
Don't exspect mums/wives or girlfriends to understand our hobby as most think its a load of old rubbish and if you do find one that shares your interest, treasure her,for her price is beyond rubies.

Mother was very unaproving at first (being a skinhead aswell didnt help) shes not botherd now though. My dad loves that im into military history as he is aswell but being ex mob he sees it as a bit of a joke more than anything. Still he helps me out wherever he can with it. Its somthing I never mention too girls though hahaha.

I keep it a secret, nobody knows what I do when I dissapear for long weekends, coming from Gloucestershire they just assume I'm doing a Fred West.
I am the bane of pointy stick forums, thrice banned for honesty, hater of internet re enactors ( you know, the ones that know everything but never do an event).

wife and kids think its grown men not growing up still playing army.

Parents dont mind one bit, they used to enjoy coming to SVR tp watch the battles and ride on the trains.

My Dad thinks its a bit odd, as he was nearly killed three times in the war, twice by the Luftwaffe and once by a V1 bomb. My wife was a little sceptical at first, but she now enjoys it as much as me and has more uniforms than I do
