Paul, was the '40 Ford available in europe prior to 1939?

What I'm saying is would it be likely to be available for the Germans to use to create an Umbauwagen?
I have no knowledge on this so I'm unsure... a 1938 Rover could have founds it's way into German hands... not too sure about a '40 Ford from the US (Unless they were built in the German factory?)

I understand that an Umbauwagen lends itself to a measure of freedom in design as they were all different being produced by field workshops etc - but the base vehicle should have some historical relevance. (IMHO)

Not being a negative nancy - just trying to pre-empt the crappy rivet counter questions. :D

The last model Ford Truck built in Europe was the 1940-41, V3000 3 ton, built in Koln. Koln-mfg trucks had a single pane front windshield, US-mfg had a 2 pc windshield
Here's our US-mfg 1941 Ford 1,5 ton which will soon have a Flak-Vierling mounted on the back deck:

Here's a 1938-39 1,5 ton:

Hi HGkanonier,

The '40 ford I think Paul has been offered GRP panels for is the type favoured by the hot rod fraternity...

Umbauwagen are converted civilian cars, usually to a pickup or troopcarrier.

Nice 1.5t Ford by the way... :)

Yup james is right, Ive decided to go with the chevy, or Chrysler option as thats what most of the pickups seem to be based on (apart from huge cadilac or Lasalle)...

Hot rodders to the rescue.....its amazin what tin they keep just in case.....

I saw a real steel 29 ford A being rodded the other week, and yes its was getting a roof chop....

So what you gonna use for a chassis & drive train? - and if you say landrover I'm gonna get kit-kat to drag you naked round Beltring arena on his R12 on the end of a good hemp roap.

You couldnt get the right stance with a landy....

its got to sit the same height (ish)as the origional and only be 2 wheel drive...

when I see the panels in the rust so to speak I can measure and then start crawling under things looking for a chassis, remember this is a cheap almost no budget idea....

So something commercial may be the doner...

Transit front suspension? (shortened beam) the old rodders fav from before the rod market came in with purpose built stuff.....

There is a chevy blazer up the farm (here not the kent one) bit high tho!

Ok, I'll put the rope away then for now.... but only for now. :)

Ideal you need a vehicle with a seperate chassis and rear wheel drive... not that common these days except classics - with all the hubs, brakes, stearing gear etc... and probably the bulkhead would be handy as includes all the mountings for stearing and controls etc and maybe also the windscreen.

Gas tank, big pile of timber... A-team style garage... time... first aid kit. :)

Well you know how good I am at finding rust! i found an austin K9 wrecker today....

I pass a farm four times a day (school run) that has for old thames vans in the undergrowth..

All sorts around here, even a bright pink 80's cavalier!

Dont forget the pics I sent you of that time warp garage? He has all sorts of chassis chained up in the rafters of his place...

All the parts of the jigsaw are lying around hereabouts, its the yank tin that will be the thing!

Its all long gone now but the big yard over at Newbury had lots of 40's yanks rotting in the bushes back in the 80's... The rodders used to go there for glass and trim... I was into VW's then so did'nt think much of it!
