Re: Zundapp KS600 on ebay..
Looks like a bastard. The covers over the rockers are steel ones and typical late war manufacture. And the rear seat is not right at all. That the original needle bearings are present on the crankshaft is bad news. Not a sales argument at all as I see it. I am in the process of replacing mine with "Gleitlager" (fluid bearings?) despite that they are OK. That it was registered first in 1949 makes it a post war anyway....

Re: Zundapp KS600 on ebay..
i thought as long as you maitained the clearence round the needle rollers by useing a bit of emery paper on a flat surface on the rods they would last as per the manual?
i of course could be wrong!

It is possible to fix it as you decribe. But it will still be oval.....
If you are to ride a KS600 more than just a couple of trips around the block you have some dilemmas that you face. The original hardening of it is 0,8-1.2 mm deep. And the steel used in the crankhaft is not suited for welding (Werkstoff EC80). It is possible to fix a crankhaft that is damaged but prey you do not have to. Costly and annoying. Still you will always have that uncertain factor hanging over your head. At least a bit. After a looong discussion with myself I have decided to go for a rebuild with a new improved oilpump. The trouble I potentially face is just too much. So I will soon have a set of original +0.1 needles (that I intended to use), a pair excelent cages and a set of late connecting rods with straight bolts that I do not need soon. I consider attaching an oil preassure gauge (or a warning lamp) as well as I intend to push it a bit. With late camshaft, twin Amal Nurnberg carb's and a Schnell kardan it should break 150km's without too moch trouble . Only snag I see are the brakes...

i would worry about the "pogo" front end they have as a solo (it might have just been the ones i rode) the lack of compression and rebound damping=two waffenampt pogo sticks with a wheel in between

Hi dave I pm'd ya about krads!
First registered doesnt mean first used....
My bike is first UK registered in 1950...
But it was built 1938, so was a bit busy prior to coming to the uk....
My german is'nt good enough to understand everything in the ad, BTW my crank no longer uses needle rollers it has been converted to shells...
Oh and a modern oil filter conversion in the sump pan

I need a new tyre and I was wondering where to get one from, the bike has the speedway tyres (mitas) at the moment.

Exept I cant find a motorcycle tyre shop, the tyre places here even the independants dont supply bike tyres anymore....
All I'm getting is "if you bring it in we can fit it"
Not around here amazing given the number of quads etc....Also I dont know if those speedway tyres are still made? Is there a better more authentic option?
Its not a stupid question and it deserves more than a trite answer.
Sorry to be tetchy but I am asking in good faith!
Oh and use my name, I'm Paul, not Deitz!
