Dear Kameraden

I've just bought a Kubel replica based on a RHD 1968 VW Beetle 1200 which is currently a poor conversion and a bit of an ugly duckling. It is UK registered and was MOT'd until last May 2013.

I intend to give it a major effort and spend some money to make it a much more accurate and desirable kubel replica, with my first priority being to get it MOT'd again so I can use it this summer as a fun car run about....

I'd identified several major Kubel replica parts suppliers including Kdf in Czech Republic.

However, would appreciate advice on the following immediate queries please:

• Supplier for 16" kubel replica steel wheels ?
  Supplier for windscreen single shaft wiper motors (12v) ?
  Is Kdf a good reliable supplier with quality products ?
  Any other recommended kubel parts suppliers?

Any advice or experience on a Kubel replica based VW Beetle much appreciated....

Hi Steve,

Good luck with your conversion.

Just be mindful that replica body panels are based/manufactured... on/from.... original sizes.
If your conversion frame is not accurate , it will need to be altered to suit these parts.

I'm in touch with Ivo at Kdf who is very helpful and their products look excellent.

I would appreciate advice on which wheels and tyres to use and any suppliers details please.

Kdf and Lehar have Kubel 5.25 x 16" wartime type tyres but I am unable to source replica steel wheels.

My current Beetle has 5 stud steel wheels which measure 15" diameter - can I get a good or acceptable replica kubel type tyre for these?

Stefan - the correct Nato/Wesa pattern tires are only available in the correct size, correct rims are about but you need to keep your ear to the ground - http://www.vw166.com/ this is the address of the VW166 forum its well worth joining there is a for sale section and I am sure someone on there will help.
