ok ..a brain picking question about blank ammo

Post by theduke335 »

I have about 1000 rounds of 7.62 blanks ...seeing is how they are blanks and not live ammo I wonder if they can be used in an 8mm mauser?? (7.62mm=.308 and 8mm=.311) not much of a difference ?? Anyone??? :?: :?: (P.S. I have both an 8mm and 7.62 mm Mauser)

NO - they'll Jam.

They would work if resized - many post on this before describing technique, worth a search.

yes need to go trhough a resizing tool
its because of the size of the shell casing near the tip

when squeezed in the tool it resizes down the shell depending on the setting of the tooling

although 7.62 sounds smaller in fact it is not
its all down to the "kneck" of the shell

If you are trying to use NATO 7.62 or necked down .3006 in a 7.92 Mauser you will need to sleeve the breech.its an interference fit and needs doing by a gunsmith or someone who knows what they are doing .

Best not to meddle with it- take it to a reputable gunsmith or Sec 5 dealer .

I agree. I used US 7.62 G.I. blanks in my 8mm 98k for years. You have to run them through an 8mm resizing die first. Mine fed beautifully.
