Panzerjaeger Abteilung 39

Post by PanzerHauptman »

I'm trying to find out as much information as possible about the above regiment, they were part of the 21st Panzer Division in North Africa but that's about as far as I've got for now, can anyone enlighten me further with regard to vehicle, equipment, weaponry and role etc.

Much appreciated and many thanks.

The PzJgAbt 39 in North Africa.
The word Abteilung means Bataillon, the PzJgAbt 39 is no Regiment.
It apear in Africa in January 1941. Was part of the 5.leichten Division, later formed in the 21.Panzerdivision, in 1. August 1941.

The Abteilung had a Staff Company and three Combat Companies.
Each Combat Company had 12 anti-tank guns.

The Panzerjägerabteilung 39 (mot) had no 88 Flak Gun. There was a strict seperation between Anti-Tank and Flak. The Heeres-Flak-Abteilung 305 of the 21.PzDiv had them.

The Panzerjägerabteilung 39 use mainly 3,7cm Pak 36, 5cm Pak 38, 7,5cm Pak 40.
The Panzerjäger I with 4,7cm(t)Pak and Marder III with 7,62cm(r) Pak were used in North Africa, but in the moment I have no information, if the PzJgAbt 39 used these selfpropelled anti tank guns. Great numbers of selfpropelled guns were used in Africa.
