Tropical Water bottle strap

Post by Halle »

If this is in the wrong section , I apologise .

Having recently purchased an original tropical water bottle , I need a repro strap to replace the one it came with . I've looked , but can't find any appropriate repros . It needs to have the horizontal as well as vertical strap , and the clip for the bread bag .

Can any of you DAK fanatics point me in the right direction please ?

Thanks in advance 8)

Askhati ,
Thanks for the reply - I checked Hikis site first - the water bottle I have is the " coconut " type , with no cover ( bought from southender on this site ) , so it needs a horizontal strap . Looking at the stuff Hiki sells , I could probably make one up if I had to .....

ATF seem to have most things covered.

BUT - just looked for you - no tropical straps until later this year

I'm sure someone will be along soon to help out

I would use the original hardware from the original strap, some old webbing straps and make new straps myself...
Another thing - the coconut is not a "tropical" canteen. If you want to do a DAK impression I would use a different canteen...

I don't really want to knacker the old strap - it's still in one piece , just probably won't hold up to any long term use . If the coconut is not a tropical canteen , what is it ?

A canteen.
Most of them were produced in 1943, the war in Africa stopped in May 1943.
There is no evidence for using them in Africa.

I have some photos from Luftwaffen soldiers in Sicily and South Italy in late 1943, thats it.
