Schafer
Not all military men of all nations, even Germans and Nazis, were ruthless killers. Quite a few were still humane and did the 'right thing' even amidst all the suffering.

Oh, and I couldn't find any fault with the KM uniforms or equipment..
Yes I would agree with you on all counts, some nice little leitz 7x50's in the hands of the bridge crew. :)
Stigroadie
He could have left, almost all U-boats did. The humane response is obvious but was not taken by most.
Why did he take it when so many did not?
The sight of so many civilians and Italian POW's , he had thought he had sunk a troop ship what he met when he moved in took him completely by surprise.
When he was attacked he had to leave them , so sad that so many who might have been saved could not be.

Just watching the 2nd part of the Laconia, a pity that someone stuck a 10x80 Flakglas on the UZO stand. :).....in reality not a mission of mounting one there !!! :)

And some production companies can be quite the reverse when they are looking for information and help !!!!

Nice photos Cam , again your nose for sourcing things has to be admired. :)

As the 2 part film was not for download it may be coming out on BBC dvd in due course , I hope if that is the case they include this along with it.
