208.Infanterie-Division 'Fall Weiss' photoshoot
Evening all,
Thought i'd share a few of these as i've almost finished working through them. For a bit of a change, some of the us have started to get together the kit to do an early war impression.
So, the other weekend we went off to get some pictures with Nick Halling based on a 'Poland 1939' theme with us portraying the men of 208.Infanterie-Division, instead of the usual GD Aufklärungs.
It's still needs a bit of polish or is that Polish so, sticking my head above the parapet - here are a few to have a look over.

Grüß Gott Kameraden,
Excellent work on the early war impression and photographs!!! The only thing that I see that might be lacking is a cross-strap for the Leutnant's belt, but this wasn't worn all the time.

So far so good - glad you've enjoyed looking at them gents
The M18 lid was from http://www.history-revisited.com/home
Very good service and a nice helmet as well. I've had to spray it up and add insignia to suit and it came with the WW1 style of liner but I couldn't get on with that so fitted an M31 style one (as was done back in the day).
As for the cross strap, that's a tricky one. Part of my research led me to believe, they were just worn for parade, another that they finished using them by 1939. I suppose as illustrated in the original picture, if they had one and wanted to wear it they would anyway.
Other than that - you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a nice brown repro one. I have an original which I thought I might use but it is way to short (possibly HJ), so that was the end of that
Neil.

Very impressive photos. Some of those could definitely be mistaken for real.

It was great fun trying out a new look for us, something I think we all agreed we could and possibly would expand on this effort in the new year, stay tuned!.
Thank you all for your kind and generous comments.

Good impression, the M18 helmet is a nice finishing touch.

Cross-strap was abolished in september 1939, according to Brian Davis.Heeresbergführer wrote:Grüß Gott Kameraden,

Guys,
Excellent as always, just one thing though (I'm sorry...). Some of your K98's are of the mid-to-late war type, with cupped stocks and hooded foresights. Otherwise, really impressive!

Re: 208.Infanterie-Division 'Fall Weiss' photoshoot
The kornschütz can be removed - but would you seriously expect people to change out parts on their k98's? I think that is going too far. Unless perhaps you are a hyper-anal 1939 only group but then there are lots of more important details to get right.Cookie wrote:Guys,

Re: 208.Infanterie-Division 'Fall Weiss' photoshoot
Yeah we realised some details are always going to be difficult to over come and we were more than aware of a few infringements that we'll hopefully iron out for the next early war shoot. Having said that my own k98 is a mid war production with the incorrect barrel band etc which crossed my mind as being wrong for the shoot (although i never used it and it stayed in the boot of the car). It's a valid point about the k98's but you can't really expect group members to go out and buy a new rifle just for a mornings photo shoot, besides k98's seem to be getting slightly rare now these days, let a lone finding a pre/early war issue.
