Post by Pietje »

Who is making the best reproduction LW Splinter jacke as being worn by LW Fielddivision troops ? Zeugmeister, At The Front, Sturm (Lomax), or some other vendor ???

Thanks in advance !

Zeugmeisterei. ATF ones are lacking, and the new SMW print is a bit dodgy ... :?

Whatever you do stay away from the sturm ones.

The Sturm Luftwaffe jackets are totally wrong; they have Heer splinter (A) instead of luftwaffe splinter (B).

In what way is the SM wholesale print dodgy? There is a couple of them(splinter B) and they are pretty good!! I would recommend the Zeug one. If you want to pay money Gmax, although I think Lost Battalions are having a sale and I think field jackets are in it! ATF pattern has the block patterns over the rain blocks and obscuring them, although they are extremely well made!

Thanks all !

So Sturm is defenetly out on this one (but their Tan and water seems good)
The Lost battalion seems on their webpage to be different from colour and much lighter than an original.

I think I will go for Zeugmeister on this one...

The Sumpf camo from Sturm isn't the best on the market, I've seen better sumpf camo jackets though I don't know if they are made in the LW FD jacket.

The best choice as far as my opinion is concerned is the one made by Panther. My FD unit ended up utilizing At the Front FD camo jackets a number of years back before the Panther one was available. I really like the color of the Panther jacket (I've owned a few originals over the years) and the workmanship is top notch. I'm a fan of the green background personally. The SMW version is a brown background and well made as well. Personal choice.
There was a bit of discussion awhile back regarding the actual use of the Sumpf camo pattern being utilized by FD troops. I'll probably be opening a can of worms but there apparently are no photos of FD troops wearing the Tan & Water pattern jacket. The few that are found are photos of FJ troops late war. Sumpf pattern came out in 1943. Top of the list to receive jump smocks in the new camo were FJ's. In Nov 43, all FD units were turned over to the Heer. All existing stocks of Luftwaffe uniforms and gear eventually ran out and were replaced by Heer stock for obvious logistical reasons. No reason for the Luftwaffe to deliver supplies to units that now belonged to a different branch. Sumpf pattern camo field jackets were issued but to Flak troops, some FJ's & the HG Division. All photos of FD troops show them wearing Splinter B jackets.
Our unit first started out with Sumpf jackets from SMW but switched over to Splinter B. Plenty of room for arguments but if you look at the photo evidence, you can't go wrong with Splinter B IMHO.

I also broght a FD Jacket from Panther store last year.
Yet to wear it but I will over the next 2 months for an event.
Really there is no reason to go elsewhere. But if I did then I would probably go Luftwaffe Supplies for sure

Panther Store jackets are made of cotton twill fabric.

Period made jackets were made both in HBT and cotton twill.
