Here, take a look at this book. Notice how the original name and rank were written in a mixture of latin and suetterlin script, while the promotion is pure suetterlin. This was very common, because for these guys who were learning suetterlin as kids, they were unable to 'turn it off' just because they were told not to use it anymore. Its like anything else, practice. I find myself writing certain letters now in a suetterlin way, just because of doing all the soldbuchs! Pisses my wife off a bit, because sometimes she has to strain to read the shopping list!

Heinz: My wife and I just had the conversation this morning about the shopping list in deutsche Schrift! If you're interested, there's actually a Freundenkreis der deutschen Schrift that is made up of German speakers who exchange letters in the old hand writing style. It's fascinating stuff.
