I wonder what experience or qualifications private people might have ?
Given what fell on Germany I would think UXB's being dealt by anyone other than the military types would be a huge risk and a major insurance nightmare.
Can't think that a "civilian firm" approach would be sensible - if this is the case it is something unique to Germany.

I remember being in Germany with a Forum member when his Dads Factory was closed because of a bomb nearby, in the paper the next day it showed the Man who disarmed it, he was not a member of the Military, a Private Person paid to remove it.

If you care to look at the Telegraph article there is no mention of BW or any Military Unit disposing them...
They said, "Three German bomb disposal experts"..

Also, here is a Spiegel English Article on such a man, German bomb disposal expert Hans-Jürgen Weise, 65

Some Pictures from his work.

And equally Jonny , no private firm is named it may have been by the State or a private firm.

The regulation of private firms would raise some interesting conundrums....."health and safety at work" :D
Will have to check this out via an ex pat. who lies in Berlin.

He got back to me JB.
Regarding the Bomb Disposal, from what I have read lately the Police are in control and have their own Squads, but I am sure that they liase with the Army and other sources.

I believe that there are private security firms that make sweeps of property which is being developed or redeveloped.

I will ask one of our German reservists when I see them, possibly later in the month with Armed Forces Day

Tom
A government allowing private firms to work on 1000lbs of 70 year old explosives , if anything went wrong or went "bang" the line of responsibility and accountability would be a political hot potato and a legal nightmare.
He is going to ask a friend who is a military reservist to check this out .

This team is definitely from the State.
