Zeltbahns and the GJ's?
Hello, I am looking at buying a Zeltbahn for my GJ "Getup" and I am wondering what camouflages they had ? I know Splinter A but is there any others?

That was the standard ZELT
They did have khaki/green 4-man mountain tents.

Splinter A zelts are the best choice for standard impression.
Some odd or captured equipment was also used however:
- during early campaigns, Rechswehr-time grey zelts were also used (eg. in Poland 1939);
- I've read that during Afrika campaign, and later Italy, some small group of GJ used French, sand-coloured zelts;
- I've seen a picture of GJ taken during Italy 1944 campaign using 'telo-mimetico' (Italian camouflage) tent parts.
But I would refrain from using some odds without specific purpose. My advice is - stick to Splinter A.

Remember the French 'zelts' were not triangular but rectangular. The triangular ones are post war afaik.mario33 wrote:Splinter A zelts are the best choice

Re: Zeltbahns and the GJ's?
Good quality and cheap seldom go hand in hand.
The newer Sturm versions are reasonable if you can live with the error in the pattern.
The SMWholesale ones are great but cannot be considered cheap.
Original ones are not hard to find, often for reasonable money if you dont want a super minty example.
It depends what you want to do with it. just rolled on the belt you dont need a minty one. To wear in poor weather you need one without too many holes. repairs are usually weather proof and pin holes seldom let in water.
Building a tent and you need a better one with good grommets and most of the buttons.
To return to the Tan colour, Italy also made their tendo in a tan colour but they are square too.

What would you say about Richard Under Wood's one? http://www.richardaunderwood.com/backupjustincase/Stigroadie wrote:Good quality and cheap seldom go hand in hand.

I'd say use his new site and that will be the Sturm version at £37.

I'd say also that the one Richard is selling for 37 pound is the Sturm one. We use them - also to make the 16-zeltbahnen tents and they do the work. Of course, if you want to pay more, for the less 100 euros you can get a good original one.
