Does anyone know if a GJ unit served in both Narvik and Crete?

Mr Ropes, he said 'BOTH'

None, to my knowledge... I was thinking of smaller units (pioniere or artillery), but no I'm afraid.

Servus MountainWiess,

There was no Gebirgsjäger unit that fought at both Narvik and Crete.

The 2nd and 3rd Gebirgsdivisions fought in Norway.

The 5th Gebirgsdivision and the 141st Gebirgsjäger Regiment (from the 6th Gebirgsdivision) fought on Crete.

Servus Seb,

Nice GJR 141 Battle March Map....they fought through the Balkans, Greece, and Crete, then they were shipped up north through Norway to Finland...the Eismeerfront.

Is the map in a period book?? Which one is that?

That would be a cool thing to add to a Tunic, a "KRETA" cuff title. Anyone here put one on theirs from the 5th Gebirgsdivision or the 141st Gebirgsjäger Regiment?

I dont know whether its a right thing to add 'cool' things to your impression out of nothing   In our group that cufftitle is awarded for taking part in the appropriate reenactment scenario (Creta 1941). And our leader, nicknamed 'Yuri', wears one on late war uniforms.

In fact a few of us landed in Creta last autumn ;)

Grüß Di' MountainWiess,

If you are planning to shoot your film in the Canadian Rockies to represent the Caucasus Mountains in Russia, your Gebirgsjäger needs to be from either the 1st Gebirgsdivision, 4th Gebirgsdivision, Hochgebirgsjäger Battalion 1 or 2, or from Hochgebirgsjägerkompanie Groth (captured and climbed Mount Elbrus).

Who is at the camera? is that you Papa? I'd love to see some of your shots!

Funny thing is I'm not a reenactor, I just got a "thing" to do a short film on the German perspective during WW2. I've seen a million movies that are the allied perspective "ad nauseam" where German soldiers can't think or shoot and just run around being cannon fodder for the allied "heros"

I think it would be fun and a challenge to portray the Germans for the fine soldiers they really were. It won't be an epic, just an indie amature film maker doing the best he can with the resources he has. I have most of the uniform items I need now: M36Tunic, M43Trousers, Bergmutze, M42Wermacht Turtle neck sweater, Y straps, Gas mask canister, K98 pouches, Rucksack, Mountain boots with cleats and hobnails, Belt and buckle, Scarf, headwarmer, gloves, Aussie puttees..still looking for stone grey, Oberfeldwebel shoulderboards, GJ insignia and collar tabs, Splinter A winter parka, Goggles, Feldgrau shirt, and GJ anorak. for a total of $1600.00 so far Yikes! I've put them on for the first time yesterday... I kinda felt like a "Dork" I'm not used to seeing myself in anything but Levis jeans and ball caps. hummm. I just started all this about a 8 weeks ago!

Well if you spent $1600 on it - don't spoil it with a little thing like a bad haircut. Get a proper period haircut and do it right. Trust me on this - the final details make it work. Otherwise it will be picked up on and detract from your final product. Look at Where Eagles Dare (of it's time I know) - passable in many respects for its day - but those 70s haircuts..... and Clint's chads (sideburns to no UK) - gimme a break!

Your right he did. Damn you mobile internet.

Weiss not sure if it would be best too have an M36 if your film is set later in the war.

Papa, very impressed! can you please post some of your work in a new thread? I've seen your photos of "Project Edelweiss" and I thought they where great, I'd love to see more of your reenacting shoots. Have you made any video?

Also, what did you all think of the GJ in the beginning of the movie Kukushka? Hey Ropes, I noticed they were wearing M36 Tunics, was it accurate? I read M36 Tunics where worn throughout the war.
