Yes, the first one was made in Africa, it shows blurred edge ("Rauchtarn") pattern.

You'll also find a handful in Brian Davis' 2nd Luftwaffe book.
"Stop that!!! Careful with my J-J!"

Great pics !!!!!!!!!
Re: Fotos from "Hermann Göring" Member wearing SS smocks
Two fotos from the back, but also interesting.
They show that the HG member probably don´t wear M42 smocks.

Re: Fotos from "Hermann Göring" Member wearing SS smocks
When the HG received their 1.800 sets of camo (smocks and helmet covers) in 1942 I am sure that no M42 weren´t available yet. The last pics with that camo are from Sicily, after that campaign it seems that the replacement were the Lw-camo jackets.

Moin Frank!
Gruss
Lars

Hello Frank,
Where did you the information about 1800 sets from? I know just two books (Michaelis, "Die Waffen-SS, Uniformen und Abzeichen" and DeLaGarde "Deutsche Uniformen"), they speak about 5000 sets.
Are you sure that the last pics were made in sicily and not in africa?
best regards
Lars

Re: Fotos from "Hermann Göring" Member wearing SS smocks
Hi Lars,
no, the pics are made in Tunisia. I only mentioned that the last pics I am knowing are from Siciliy, the first are from Russia.
And you are right, Davis says 5000 sets, too. 1800 is mentioned in two rather bad books. So due top the fact that most books count 5000 sets I will take this number.

Re: Fotos from "Hermann Göring" Member wearing SS smocks
Ok Frank, thank you!
Back to the pattern:
So we know palm tree pattern, plane tree pattern (B/W picture) and blurred edge on M38 and/or M40 smock.
Does anybody have any other pictures with SS pattern? For example oak A?
Jean DeLaGarde offers a nice study in his book "Deutsche Uniformen" with an oak A smock. No tropical uniform, the man wears bluegray. Is there an original picture known with oak pattern smocks?

Re: Fotos from "Hermann Göring" Member wearing SS smocks
I believe the Bender/Petersen book on the Hermann Goring Divsion has a few good shots including one of a M42 plain tree version worn by a jager in Russia. Apparently many of the surviving SS smocks were worn till the end.

Why throwing away a good smock if still servicable?
